Middlesbrough are willing to listen to offers for Micah Hamilton

Middlesbrough are reportedly willing to listen to offers for young forward Micah Hamilton, who has become somewhat of a forgotten man on Teesside.

Boro signed the 22-year-old from Manchester City’s academy in 2024, for a fee of around £2 million, according to The Northern Echo.

Now, in a recent reveal from the same outlet, they are open to the Manchester-born attacker leaving this window, following winter captures of Jeremy Sarmiento, on loan from Brighton, and Leo Castledine, leaving Hamilton further down the pecking order.

With that, Football League World take a look at two EFL clubs who should be on high alert for Hamilton's services...

Huddersfield Town

Hamilton did not make Boro’s matchday squad against Preston North End at the weekend, due in part to their recent purchase of Castledine, who, like Hamilton, plays in either attacking midfield or on the wing.

Boro bought Castledine from Chelsea after the Premier League side recalled him from his loan spell with the Terriers, a loss they are yet to make up for in the market.

It would make sense, therefore, for Huddersfield to see if there was any deal to be done with the man Castledine has unseated at his new club.

Given he’s failed to break into a Championship side, dropping down to League One feels like the optimum level for Hamilton to try.

He showed flashes of his talent in a brief loan at that level with Stockport County, but another year on in his progression, he may be ready to make a bigger impact than he managed at Edgeley Park.

Hamilton did, however, struggle to unseat Will Collar in the no.10 in Dave Challinor’s 3-4-1-2 system, with that the only position that suits his natural abilities.

New Huddersfield boss Liam Manning often favours a similar shape, which could cause problems, but the hope would be that Castledine’s departure would leave a more obvious gap for Hamilton to fill.

Northampton Town

A side that may suit the Boro man better is Northampton Town, who deploy more traditional wingers in a 3-4-3 setup.

The Cobblers need to replace the attacking output just lost in the recall of striker Ethan Wheatley to Manchester United, and while Hamilton would not be a direct replacement, he may be able to pick up some of the slack.

Wheatley scored three goals and provided three assists in 22 appearances for Northampton, so will certainly need replacing.

The left-wing berth at Sixfields is far from nailed down, either, having rotated between the likes of Kyle Edwards, Elliot List and Sam Hoskins in recent weeks, who have just five goals between them.

Languishing around the relegation zone as things stand, with uncertainty in wide areas, although it may not be the level Hamilton dream of playing when netting a goal for City in the Champions League, it feels like a situation that would have room for him to nail down a place and prove his worth in senior football.

Whether Boro are looking for a loan or a permanent sale remains to be seen, but their keenness to get Hamilton off their books will give any interested parties plenty of leverage to get a good deal.

For both Northampton and Hamilton, there’s little to lose in a move like this, and potentially a lot to gain.
