Middlesbrough have completed the signing of former Leeds United defender Sam Byram on a free transfer after his recent departure from Elland Road, the club said in a statement.

The 32-year-old full-back returned to Leeds in August 2023 from Norwich City and featured 36 times in 2024/25 as they won the Championship title.

He saw limited minutes after promotion to the Premier League and became a free agent this summer when his Leeds contract expired.

Byram has made more than 300 appearances across the Premier League and Championship and can operate on either flank.

He now bolsters Kim Hellberg’s options for 2026/27, adding competition for places at full-back.
