After falling agonisingly short of the Premier League last season, the Lions have already moved quickly in the transfer market with the arrivals of Jenson Metcalfe and Tairyk Arconte.

The club's recruitment team now appear to have turned their attention back to the Belgian market, with another highly-rated young talent seemingly on course to arrive at The Den.

Fresh reports suggest Millwall are now on the verge of securing their third signing of the summer, with a long-term contract lined up for one of the Belgian Pro League's most promising emerging players.

Millwall are set to complete the signing of Belgian midfielder Mathis Servais from KV Mechelen after a deal was agreed between the two clubs.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has reported that the 21-year-old is travelling to London on Saturday to undergo a medical before signing a five-year contract at The Den.

The fee is being disputed though between countries. KV Mechelen are expected to receive a fee of around €6 million for the deal, as per Tavolieri's claim, but Millwall-centred reports claim it is less - Dan Marsh of The Mirror believes it will be a fee of £3 million (€3.5 million) that gets the deal done.

Servais only joined Mechelen from SK Beveren last summer but enjoyed an impressive first campaign in the Belgian Pro League, making 32 league appearances, scoring twice and notching three assists after earning his move from the second tier.

The versatile midfielder, who can also operate out wide and played many games in 2025-26 as a left wing-back, came through Club Brugge's academy before spending two seasons at Beveren.

His breakthrough 2024/25 campaign, which yielded eight goals and eight assists in the Challenger Pro League, convinced Mechelen to secure his signature.

He adapted quickly to Belgium's top flight, becoming a regular starter while contributing two goals and four assists across all competitions.

Should the move be completed as expected, Servais will become Millwall's third signing of the summer following the aforementioned arrivals of Metcalfe from Bradford City and Arconte from Rodez.

After suffering the heartbreak of missing out on promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs last season, Millwall have wasted little time showing they intend to challenge again.

Neil's side recorded the club's highest-ever points tally in the second tier with 83 points before falling to Hull City in the play-off semi-finals, leaving the feeling that only a small improvement is needed to bridge the gap.

Servais appears to fit the recruitment profile Millwall have developed in recent years. At 21, he already has experience across both divisions of Belgian football while retaining significant room for development.

The Lions have enjoyed success identifying talent from overseas, with players such as Casper de Norre, Camiel Neghli and Mihailo Ivanovic all adapting well after arriving from clubs outside England.

Servais' versatility should also appeal to Neil. Comfortable in central midfield, on the left or in more advanced attacking roles, he offers tactical flexibility alongside the technical quality that has earned him recognition as one of the Belgian Pro League's emerging talents.

A five-year contract would also underline Millwall's long-term faith in the youngster, with the club seemingly prepared to invest heavily in a player they believe could become a key figure as they chase a long-awaited return to the top flight.
