Minnesota United closing in on NAC Breda’s talented young defender

Minnesota United are, according to VI, closing in on a deal to sign NAC Breda defender Cherrion Valerius. The 20-year-old has, despite the clubs struggles in the Eredivisie, impressed this season and it is not surprising that clubs like Minnesota United are trying to sign him this January. For MLS sides like Minnesota United, the January transfer window is a time to bring in players ahead of the upcoming season. There had been other clubs interested in Valerius, including two unnamed sides in Scotland and La Liga respectively. However, Minnesota United appear to be the clear favourite for the right-back’s signature.

Valerius, who is eligible to represent Curocao at international level, made his NAC Breda debut as a teenager during the 2023/2024 season. After two appearances that season, he made 15 for the side in the Eredivisie last year. This year he has featured more regularly, starting 11 of the 18 games he has played in the top flight of Dutch football. NAC Breda will certainly need to replace Valerius, given that they are currently second bottom in the Eredivisie.
