Mirassol have decided not to pay R$ two million to field Tiquinho Soares against Santos on Tuesday, 10 March, in the Brasileirão. According to Diario Do Peixe, the striker is on loan from Santos, which triggers a fee to face his parent club.

Beyond the financial aspect, the club believe he still needs to sharpen his fitness. His loan runs until the end of the year.

Head coach Rafael Guanaes said they will not rush him and the collective comes first. Soares is progressing physically and any decision on starting depends on how long he can sustain intensity.

With chances limited at Santos, a termination was discussed but no agreement was reached. He asked to leave and was willing to forgo almost half of what he was owed, but the board wanted more. He is expected to play for the interior São Paulo side to gain minutes, with Santos covering a large share of his wages.

This year, Soares missed the start of the season with a calf oedema and has been working internally. After recovering, he made the bench against São Paulo in the league, then was left out of later squads. He also lost the number nine shirt after Gabigol arrived.

Signed in January 2025 in a linked deal with Botafogo that sent defender Jair to Rio, Soares is under contract until the end of 2027. He has nine goals and four assists in 43 games for Santos.
