Terem Moffi scored in FC Porto’s win in Stuttgart, delivering his clearest signal yet that he can aid Francesco Farioli’s side amid a packed schedule.

O Jogo notes that in Germany he combined a goal with strong involvement, offering another option for an attack without Samu and De Jong. It was the first leg of the Europa League last 16. Signed on loan from Nice in January, it was his second start and he opened the scoring, his second goal in six outings after netting against Arouca.

Although still short of peak condition, he asked to be withdrawn soon after half-time. His first half featured assured hold-up play and neat links with team-mates.

The numbers indicate Moffi currently scores more frequently than Samu, sidelined for the season with a ligament rupture in early February. Moffi has 187 minutes and two goals, one every 93.5 minutes, compared with Samu’s 2116 minutes and 20 goals, one every 105.8 minutes. Deniz Gul has 1105 minutes and four goals, one every 276 minutes.

This display followed muted showings against Sporting and Benfica, after which he rejected suggestions he had little impact in Lisbon. He will be on the bench against Moreirense tomorrow, and next Thursday’s second leg should restore him to the XI as Porto look to reach the quarter-finals, 15 years after their last triumph.
