Mohamed-Ali Cho will not be joining Hull City. Nice-Matin reports that the promoted Premier League side have called off a €20m deal.
More than a week of talks between Nice, Hull and the 22-year-old’s camp had left the transfer close. The fee would have been Nice’s biggest sale of the window and timely income during a near-unprecedented austerity drive.
The unilateral decision surprised Nice executives and Cho’s camp after a green light on Saturday. Paperwork for his employment contract had started and the medical was scheduled for Sunday in England.
Hull changed strategy within hours amid an injury crisis. In a friendly against Frankfurt on Sunday, two more players went off injured. The €20m budget earmarked for Cho was redirected to other positions or less costly profiles.
The collapse does not mean Cho will stay at Nice. Club and player remain open to a departure, but another route is needed. Besiktas, who had offered around €15m, or Monaco, who are advancing on Farès Ghedjemis, are among the possibilities with about 20 days left in the market.
