Despite initially being reticent to join Stade Rennais, Guillermo Maripán (29) is now open to the move, however, according to Foot Mercato, AS Monaco are hesitant to release their Chilean centre-back.
The roles have been reversed. According to reports, Maripán was keen to either remain at Monaco, or failing that, make a move to the Premier League. However, Florian Maurice and Julien Stéphan have managed to convince the Chilean of a move to Roazhon Park. But, it is now Monaco, who had reportedly been open to a sale, who are stalling a potential move.
Monaco remain short in defence with numerous absences linked to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Wilfried Singo and Mohamed Salisu have notably departed to represent their respective countries, whilst Thilo Kehrer has been brought in. Monaco are still locked in talks over a move for Stade Brestos’ Lilian Brassier and Maripán’s future could be linked to the fate of this deal. Currently, it seems, Monaco are unwilling to let Maripán, Rennes’ No.1 target, leave the club without a replacement being signed.
