Monza ‘to renew’ pursuit of Lazio’s Manuel Lazzari as pecking order shifts | OneFootball

Monza have reportedly revived their interest in Lazio right-back Manuel Lazzari, who has slipped to third choice under Gennaro Gattuso.

According to The Laziali, the 32-year-old is weighing up an offer from the Lombardy side, who had already enquired earlier in the summer.

Gattuso’s hierarchy was clear in the opening-day win in Bologna. After Adam Marusic went off early, Romano Floriani Mussolini came on, and the coach later spoke of wanting to give the 23-year-old more space while stressing his respect for Lazzari.

Lazzari joined in 2019 after six years at SPAL. He shone as a wing-back in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2, then often sat behind Marusic during Maurizio Sarri’s tenure.

Sassuolo explored a move last week during talks over Andrea Pinamonti but turned instead to Hellas Verona’s Rafik Belghali. With his deal expiring at the end of the season, Lazzari could be available at a discount, similar to Ivan Provedel’s €3 million switch to Inter and Alessio Romagnoli’s near move to Al-Sadd before it collapsed.

Finding himself at the foot of the pecking order, Lazzari is hoping to secure a transfer before the deadline.
