Morgan Gibbs-White’s partner appeared to aim a subtle swipe at England boss Thomas Tuchel after the Nottingham Forest midfielder was left out of the latest squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.

Britney De Villiers posted an Instagram graphic noting Gibbs-White is the only Premier League player this season to have created five or more chances in every match he has played.

Tuchel argued it made little sense to name three to five No 10s, acknowledged Gibbs-White’s form, and said selection is one thing but performing is another, adding that Cole must step up to justify his place.

Gibbs-White was understood to be on Tuchel’s initial list but, despite a strong finish to last season with Forest, he was omitted from the final 27-man squad.

He said: "I got the call on the Thursday like everyone else did, (to know) whether they were going or not.

"A good, honest conversation. He just said, 'I've got people ahead of you right now. It's nothing to do with you, you've done everything that you could possibly do. I've really enjoyed watching you the past six months, just unfortunately the way it is'." He was speaking to TalkSPORT in May.
