Moscardo reveals what Luis Enrique wants for his PSG return

Loaned by Paris Saint-Germain to Espanyol Barcelona, 21-year-old Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Moscardo knows what he wants to achieve in order to return to Paris. In an interview with Sport, he explains how his move to Spain was decided and shares Luis Enrique’s expectations for this season.

Moscardo: “The ideal option would be Spain”

“Before joining Espanyol, Luis Enrique had told Luis Campos that he wanted me to be loaned to another club playing in a major league. And Luis Campos told me that the ideal option would be Spain. That’s when Monchi stepped in and the opportunity with Espanyol came up.”

Moscardo presents this loan move as a decision worked out together with PSG. That is encouraging for him: Paris wants to be able to assess his progress in a major league, with the prospect of seeing him earn a real place in the team. Now, he has to turn this opportunity into a convincing season. The choice of destination gives him the right setting; his performances will decide what comes next.

Moscardo: “I think I’ll be able to return to PSG”

“Well, to be a key player. That’s actually what Luis Enrique told me: he said I had to be a key player, play more matches, be a starter, build up playing time...” “If all of that happens, and if I score goals as well, I think I’ll be able to return to PSG and also to the Brazil national team. I have to focus on that, on being a starter and scoring goals, that’s what I need to do.”

The target is ambitious, and Moscardo deserves credit for stating it clearly. According to his account, Luis Enrique mainly expects him to play a lot and become an important part of Espanyol. The midfielder adds to that roadmap his desire to score and earn a recall to the Brazil national team. Nothing guarantees him a place at PSG yet, but he knows what kind of progress he wants to show on the pitch.
