Mourners gather in Wolverhampton for the funeral of Phil 'Lofty' Parkes | OneFootball

Mourners gathered in Wolverhampton city centre on Wednesday morning for the funeral of Wolves goalkeeping great Phil ‘Lofty’ Parkes.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, family, friends and figures from the Wolves family arrived at St Peter’s Collegiate Church as the procession reached the city centre on 2 September.

Parkes died on August 8 aged 79. The 6ft 4in goalkeeper spent 18 years at Molineux and made 382 first-team appearances between 1966 and 1978.

He helped Wolves reach the 1972 UEFA Cup final, and was part of the squad that won the League Cup two years later.

Parkes stayed closely connected to the club after retiring, regularly supporting former player, community and charity events. He was inducted into the Wolves Hall of Fame in 2023.
