Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has revealed Josh Murphy’s latest injury setback is not “disastrous” but admitted the winger continues to struggle with a recurring groin problem.
Murphy was forced off shortly after coming on as a substitute during Portsmouth’s 3-1 victory over Lincoln City.
However, Mousinho played down fears over the severity of the issue while acknowledging the frustration surrounding the forward’s fitness.
“Murph is okay, it’s not disastrous but it’s that same thing he has been struggling with,” Mousinho told Portsmouth News.
“Whenever we’ve spoken in the media, I guess there’s sometimes frustration at my answers because that is the case. Sometimes he’s okay, sometimes he’s not. Sometimes he feels great, sometimes he’s struggling with his groin.
“He’s a bit down at the moment. That’s not a problem for now, that’s one to get on top of on Sunday and Monday and see how he is.
“There’s nothing terrible there, but he’s still really feeling little bits of that groin.”
“Since December, he’s had a broken foot and now this.
“He’s had those issues here and there. Sometimes I thought he might be available for the weekend or two weeks’ time, then you ask me in two weeks and he hasn’t been available.”
The Portsmouth boss also confirmed the club remain active in the transfer market, with further additions expected before the window closes.
“There’s still a bit of room for improvement,” Mousinho told Sky Sports.
“I still think there’s a couple of incomings that we’ll have this week, leading up to the window closing next week.”
