Napoli met with Mamuka Jugeli, the agent of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, in Milan on Wednesday, and the conversations are continuing also with the entourage of Alex Meret. Those agreements aren’t imminent yet, but the Partenopei have gotten closer to the requests.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Eurosport), the representative of the Georgian star will fly back home without a new contract in his pocket, but the dialogue will go on remotely. The team is willing to get to a €8M salary as demanded but gradually in the next few years and through some bonuses and not right away.
The main sticking point in the talks between Napoli and the Kvaratskhelia camp is the release clause, while it’s the length of the new deal as far as Meret is concerned. As for the former, Jugeli asked to set it a €80M and obtain a robust percentage of a future sale since he was instrumental in bringing him to Italy for cheap, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.
Instead, the Partenopei would rather not set a sum for his departure, avoiding a repeat of the Victor Osimhen case. Or at least include one that’s much higher. PSG tendered €100M for the winger last summer.
The goalie could get either a contract until 2027 with an option or directly until 2028, Sky reports (via OneFootball). The parties are close on the numbers, and he’s likely to re-up eventually.
Their success on the pitch helps on these matters too, as it should soon become apparent that they are headed for a quick return to the Champions League, which will remove some temptations.
