Napoli have reportedly decided not to sell Sunderland-linked midfielder Frank Anguissa in this window, while talks over a new contract continue. If no agreement is reached, he could be allowed to run down his deal and leave on a free next summer.
According to Sunderland Echo, Napoli plan to keep Anguissa this month and aim to extend his contract to 2031. The report adds his camp are seeking five million euros net, and that if no deal is struck he would stay until his current 30/6/27 expiry.
Sunderland have made only one signing so far, with Belgium international Thomas Meunier agreeing a two-year deal after leaving Lille. He became the first arrival of the summer at the Stadium of Light.
A move for Toulouse left-back Dayann Methalie is on hold after medical tests flagged an issue. The France Under-21 international has returned home, though the transfer could still be completed in the coming weeks.
The Black Cats are working to add further reinforcements in the final fortnight of the window to bolster Regis Le Bris’ options for a historic Europa League campaign.
Anguissa, capped 67 times by Cameroon, joined Napoli on loan from Fulham in 2021 before making the move permanent a year later. He has since become a two-time Serie A champion.
