The UEFA Nations League’s group phase came to an end during November’s international break but there’s still plenty to be decided.

Europe’s governing body has made changes to the format in 2024/25, with the introduction of quarter-finals in the knockout rounds and promotion/relegation play-offs between the tiers.

Nations League Draw: When is it and how does it work?

When is the Nations League draw?

The Nations League draw will take place on Friday 22nd November, beginning at 11am BST. The draw will open with the quarter-final fixtures being determined, before the draw for the promotion/relegation play-offs. UEFA will stream the draw on their website for those interested in watching.

How does the new format work?

For the first time, quarter-finals will take place in the knockout rounds. The top two teams from the League A groups are in the last eight, with the group winners to be paired against group runners-up in the quarter-finals. The teams who progressed from the same group can not be drawn against each other.

To determine promotion and relegation, third-placed teams from League A will face the runners-up of League B. The third-placed teams in League B take on the runners-up of League C, while the two best-ranked fourth-placed teams of League C meet the runners-up of League D.

The ties will be played over two legs, home and away. If the team from the higher tier wins, the teams remain in the same leagues. If the team from the lower tier wins, they will be promoted and the losers relegated, swapping divisions for the 2026/27 edition.
