The contract talks between FC Bayern and Konrad Laimer are currently on ice. Chief Sports Officer Max Eberl has now explained why the negotiations are currently not being continued
Konrad Laimer is having a strong season at FC Bayern – but his long-term future at the record champions remains open. The 28-year-old’s contract runs until 2027, but an extension is currently not in sight
Recent reports had already suggested that talks between the club and the player had stalled, but now sporting director Max Eberl himself has commented on the situation
Before Bayern’s departure for the Champions League match against Atalanta Bergamo, the 51-year-old said at Munich airport: „We would like to extend our contract with Konny.“
However, Eberl also confirmed that talks are currently on hold: „There have been talks, but it’s currently on hold.“
The Bayern boss emphasized that this is not a conflict, but rather that different ideas are the reason why there is currently no movement in the negotiations
„This is without rancour and without malice,“ Eberl clarified. „You have ideas, they have ideas, and they have to fit together in some way. At the moment they don’t, but that’s not a bad thing either,“ said Eberl
In sporting terms, Laimer is one of the reliable forces in Vincent Kompany’s team. The Austrian, who moved to Munich from RB Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, is currently playing arguably his best season in a Bayern shirt
The right-back recently scored his third goal of the Bundesliga season in the 4-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, almost breaking his personal record
Austria’s Footballer of the Year has scored a total of seven goals in 20 games in the current league season, forming a well-coordinated duo with winger Michael Olise, particularly on the right flank
The club’s strategic direction could also be a factor in the negotiations, as those responsible want to keep the salary structure within the team stable in the long term

At the same time, Munich rate Laimer’s importance to the team very highly: „We are extremely happy that he is here, that he is healthy again and that he is now available for the games,“ emphasized Eberl
Whether and when talks about a contract extension will be resumed is currently open.
