New Daryl Dike footage at Orlando City has got West Brom fans reacting | OneFootball

The former Albion frontman got on the scoresheet back in Orlando, leading to an outpouring of a joy from Baggies supporters.

With West Brom waving goodbye to 10 players so far this summer, the exit of Daryl Dike was definitely the most emotional one for supporters to handle.

The American frontman was brought to The Hawthorns in the January transfer window of 2022 under Valerien Ismael for a fee of £7m, but much of his four-year spell in the blue and white stripes would see him ravaged with injuries, as he struggled to get a consistent amount of game time.

Dike’s opening season for Albion saw him make just two appearances, as a hamstring injury on his home debut against Peterborough United ruled him out for the remainder of the term.

Heading into 2022-23 under Steve Bruce, the American international was sidelined for 19 games with a thigh injury, before earning his longest run of playing time in an Albion shirt under Carlos Corberan, featuring in 22 consecutive games and scoring seven goals in the process.

But over that and the following season, Dike suffered two gut-wrenching Achilles tendon ruptures, meaning he didn’t make a consistent return to action until February 2025, when Albion’s play-off hopes crumbled with Tony Mowbray.

Last campaign, Dike would go on to miss the opening nine games of the season with a thigh injury sustained in training, and that tweak would see him positioned as the third-choice striker under Ryan Mason.

In Mason’s six months at the club, the former Barnsley forward featured only seven times and earned just 31 minutes of second-tier action, with the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder clearly unable to trust Dike and favouring the services of Aune Heggebo or Josh Maja, something replacement Eric Ramsay also did during his disastrous and short stay at the club.

But his final period of time at The Hawthorns would end on a high note under the interim spell of James Morrison, managing to keep himself fit for a sustained period of time and contributing to their Championship survival by notching key goals against Watford and Preston North End.

The Baggies however, opted against offering him a new deal despite some demands from the supporters, with the club clearly unable to trust his fitness after so many struggles over the last four seasons.

Following his exit from The Hawthorns, Dike moved back to MLS outfit Orlando City on a free transfer, with some of his latest footage getting West Brom fans talking.

Facing off against Liga MX side Atlético de San Luis in their final Phase One match of the Leagues Cup 2026, Daryl Dike got himself back on the scoresheet for the first time since returning to the Lions.

Dike grabbed the opening goal of the contest just after the half hour mark, sliding in to convert a rebound after Tiago’s header was initially saved by San Luis goalkeeper Manuel Lajud from a Wilder Cartagena delivery.

It was Dike’s 20th goal in all competitions for Orlando, with the Lions eventually winning on a penalty shootout 5-3 after the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

After cementing himself as a fan favourite at The Hawthorns for his strength in so much adversity, it’s no surprise to see West Brom fans full of praise for Daryl Dike following his return to goalscoring form in America.

Orlando City posted footage of Dike’s goal on their X account, which has led to Baggies supporters flooding to the comments section to show their delight.

One Albion supporter, JayBee, labelled Dike a fighter, tweeting: “So glad to see DD smashing it home! A true fighter!”

Another Baggies fan, Neil Harvey, commented that Dike will always be welcomed back at The Hawthorns, tweeting: “All the best Daryl, gutted to see you go and hope all your injuries are behind you. You’ll rip it up this season 💯👌🏻👊🏻❤️ you’ll always be welcome back at the Albion pal 👊🏻❤️”.

Michael Singh, another West Brom fan praised Dike, tweeting: “Well done Daryl.”

Meanwhile, David Guest was also delighted to see Dike find the back of the net, commenting: “Yes big man!”

Finally, another Albion supporter called Lewis admitted he wished the Baggies had kept Dike at the club and gave him a bigger chance to prove his fitness and showcase what he could do at Championship level.

He tweeted: “What a player when he can stay fit. Really wish West Brom gave him another couple years to see what he’s really about.”

It’s a real shame the way Daryl Dike’s journey at West Brom played out, with the bullish frontman clearly good enough to be a potent force in the Championship given his time at Barnsley and the small sample size we saw with the Baggies.

His influence was shown at the back end of last season as he got a fair chance to shine under James Morrison, with those two goals against Watford and Preston greatly appreciated in the Black Country.

From the club’s point of view, you can understand why they were unwilling to take yet another gamble on his fitness heading into pre-season, with the striker going back to familiar surroundings and another club where he is adored.

It seems like being back in that environment has got the best out of Dike again, and hopefully he can find the back of the net many more times in the purple of Orlando.
