Newcastle and Chelsea given Scalvini transfer hope despite Atalanta renewal | OneFootball

Italy international Giorgio Scalvini, who has recently extended his contract with Atalanta, has admitted that he would like to experience playing abroad at some stage in his career, following transfer interest from the likes of Newcastle United and Chelsea in the Premier League.

Scalvini on playing abroad: ‘One day, I’d like to do that’

Football Italia was among the accredited media when Scalvini spoke at a press conference at Coverciano on Wednesday afternoon, ahead of Italy’s upcoming Nations League test against France on Friday evening.

Aside from the discussion of Italy’s recent 4-1 victory over Turkiye, the challenge that France will face later this week and the importance of having Roberto Mancini back in the Azzurri dugout, Scalvini also spoke about his new Atalanta contract and his ambition to play abroad at some stage in the future.

The 22-year-old, who made his Italy national team debut aged 18 during Mancini’s first stint in charge, has spent the entirety of his senior career with Atalanta at club level and over the weekend, it was confirmed that he had penned a new deal with La Dea until the summer of 2031.

“I’ve always been there, and I’ve extended because I’ve always felt good,” Scalvini told the media when asked about his decision to commit his future to Atalanta.

There had been transfer interest in Scalvini from Premier League side Newcastle United over the summer transfer window, and from Chelsea in the summer of 2025.

Reports in July claimed that Atalanta valued Scalvini in excess of €50m, which might have gone even higher following the signing of his new contract.

Still, Scalvini says that he would like to have the experience of playing abroad at some stage before the end of his career.

“At the same time, I understand those who change clubs and go abroad. One day I’d like to do that to learn new things and new concepts, but I’m already doing it at Atalanta,” he said.
