Newcastle have received an injury boost before hosting Leeds United at St James' Park on Wednesday, with fears over Jacob Murphy easing after his early hamstring withdrawal at Crystal Palace.

According to Leeds Live, scans mean Murphy has been described as having a chance to feature and he will be given until the last moment to prove his fitness. Eddie Howe indicated the problem was largely fatigue, and Harvey Barnes could be used if Murphy does not recover in time.

The hosts are definitely without Anthony Elanga. Dan Burn, Emil Krafth and William Osula remain unavailable for the Leeds clash.

The visitors have ruled out former Newcastle hometown hero Sean Longstaff starting or having a prominent role against his old club.

Howe spoke warmly about Longstaff, calling him an outstanding player and saying Newcastle were sad to lose him. He added that Longstaff cared deeply for the club and that they have missed him.
