Bayern Munich’s admiration for Nick Woltemade has not faded – even well after his switch to Newcastle United.

Christian Falk now reports that it’s currently unlikely the former VfB Stuttgart striker will return to the Bundesliga.

That said, it was not possible to 100% rule out an early exit this summer after only a season spent in the Premier League.

Woltemade has registered 10 goals and four assists in 40 appearances for the Magpies this term.

Bayern appear to have a sneaky suspicion that the German could be wearing Munich red one day.

Indeed, they showed serious commitment to signing Nick Woltemade in the prior summer transfer window, even lodging a €60m [£52.2m] bid, as Bayern Insider reported back in August.

But, ultimately, it seems unlikely that the Bavarians will move in for the 23-year-old unless the right conditions surface.

“It is TRUE: Bayern retain their admiration of Nick Woltemade. Just like any club, when you have a clear admiration for a player, it’s normal to wonder about the future,” Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.

“That’s the point with Woltemade and Bayern Munich. Both sides know that perhaps they’ll meet again in the future. This summer is too early. Bayern Munich won’t pay the transfer fee.

“I heard Newcastle, perhaps, would lower their price tag. Indeed, they’re not so happy at the moment; Woltemade isn’t playing a great deal. The manager, Eddie Howe, isn’t giving him many chances to play at the moment.”

Woltemade could still stay at Newcastle

Football is, historically, fickle when it comes to players and difficult starts to life in the English top-flight.

As Christian Falk acknowledges, a return to form could very well change perception in the north east: “That said, he had a very good start to life at Newcastle, so things can change quickly if he’s getting the play time and scoring.

“At the moment, however, a deal isn’t guaranteed. But the door could open this summer, and Woltemade, if things don’t change, could be open for a transfer.

“I’m not sure if Bayern Munich will be at the table this time, but it’s always a question of price.”

There’s no question that Nick Woltemade wowed the Geordies with his explosive start at St James’ Park. The former Bundesliga hitman racked up an impressive four goals in his opening five Premier League games.

From Fulham onwards, however, the footballer has only managed five goal contributions in 18 league games.

That has culminated in Eddie Howe opting to significantly reduce the striker’s playing minutes in recent months.

Whether this all inevitably leads to a parting of ways between the two parties in the summer remains to be seen.

Ultimately, Newcastle may struggle to improve on Woltemade, having beaten Bayern to his services in 2025, at the end of the campaign.
