Newcastle United are reportedly looking for a new striker for the summer transfer window, with Nick Woltemade’s future already in doubt.

The Germany international started brightly at St James’ Park but is now on a run of 14 games without a goal for Eddie Howe’s side.

According to Football Insider, this has led to Newcastle already looking to sell Woltemade as they make a new signing up front a top priority ahead of next season.

Newcastle ended up selling Alexander Isak to Liverpool last summer, and it’s perhaps not too surprising that they’ve found it difficult to replace him.

As well as Woltemade, NUFC also signed Yoane Wissa, and he’s also been a little slow to get going for the Magpies due to arriving injured.

Should Newcastle sell Nick Woltemade already?

Woltemade was very highly rated before he joined Newcastle and it looked like he’d be a good signing after he made a strong start to life in English football.

The 23-year-old has nine goals in 37 games in all competitions so far this season, but his recent drought is undoubtedly a worry.

Still, given that he’s young and still adapting to a new team and league, perhaps Newcastle could do well to give him a bit more time.

Bayern Munich wanted Nick Woltemade

If Newcastle were to sell Woltemade, one imagines they’d have a lot of suitors as he was wanted by Bayern Munich before he eventually decided to move to St James’ Park instead.

Speaking on the View From The Lane Podcast earlier this season, journalist Danny Kelly said: “Bayern Munich are beside themselves with fury that Nick Woltemade went to Newcastle.

“They thought he would be automatically straight into the Bayern squad, but part of the reason he didn’t go, of course, was because he knew he wouldn’t get game time up front [ahead of Harry Kane].

“He wants to play as a striker, and he didn’t go to Munich for that exact reason.”

Given how highly rated Woltemade was before his move to Newcastle, it could be that they’d have a lot of tempting offers for him if they did decide to part ways this summer.
