Newcastle have secured a deal to acquire land for a new £190million training facility, with the club aiming to complete the relocation prior to the 2029-30 season.

The club intends to buy the 260-acre Woolsington Hall estate, which features parkland alongside a derelict listed country house near the city's airport, to construct a high-calibre training complex subject to planning permission.

An official planning application is due to be submitted early next year, with the men’s first team slated to relocate for the 2029-30 campaign. The grounds were previously bought by former chairman Sir John Hall in 1994 as a potential location for an academy.

Financed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and RB Sports and Media, the venture was praised by chief executive David Hopkinson, who said: "This is a landmark moment for Newcastle.

David Hopkinson hailed the deal as a ‘landmark moment for Newcastle’ (PA)

"Subject to planning permission, our proposed performance complex will create the world’s best performance environment for our teams. We’ll develop purpose-built facilities that are geared towards developing sustainable success in the future, where players, coaches and staff can perform at their very best every day.

"We will be submitting a detailed planning application that not only demonstrates our vision, but also how we will preserve and enhance an historic estate, its biodiversity and wildlife habitats, and how we’ll be a great neighbour."

Newcastle are currently preparing for their first Premier League game of the season at home to Liverpool on Sunday.

It has been a difficult summer for the Magpies, who has bid farewell to a number of key players including Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon.

Eddie Howe also walked away from the club last month after a little under five years in charge. The Englishman guided Newcastle into the Champions League twice while also ending the club’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy when they won the Carabao Cup last year.

He has been replaced by Matthias Jaissle, who completed his first signing earlier this week when Newcastle bought Benfica right-back Amar Dedic for a fee in the region on £30 million.

Newcastle have also added several promising young players to their squad ahead of what promises to be a transitional season at St James’ Park.
