Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is being looked at as a deadline day signing by Arsenal, but the Magpies have ‘rejected an initial approach’.
Eddie Howe has found himself hamstrung in his desire to make signings during the winter transfer window as Newcastle try to stay on the right side of PSR rules.
The club pocketed a huge fee from Liverpool for Alexander Isak in the summer, but splashed serious cash on Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade.
Midfielder is an area where Newcastle have been told they need more depth, however now they are being tested for one of their top stars.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Arsenal want to sign Tonali on deadline day.

Mikel Arteta is impressed with what the Italy international brings to the table and the Gunners ‘are exploring’ a swoop to take him to north London.
A deal though is considered to be hugely difficult to do now and Newcastle have ‘rejected an initial approach’ from the Gunners.
Losing a key man such as Tonali on deadline day would be potentially disastrous for Newcastle as they battle to try to finish in the Premier League’s top five.
They also face a playoff round tie in the Champions League against Qarabag and are due to face Manchester City in the EFL Cup later this week.

Tonali has made a big impression in English football and was viewed as an ideal signing by Manchester United last summer.
Landing Tonali would be a big coup for Arsenal, but pulling off such a substantial deal on deadline day and in the face of opposition from Newcastle looks tough.
The Gunners are in the thick of the Premier League title race and the move could be one which appeals to the Italian.
With Newcastle having rejected the initial approach though, Tonali may have to wait until the summer and hope Arsenal come back if a deal is to happen.
