Newcastle United continue to work hard to strengthen their squad. They also recognise the importance of keeping players who have raised their level. The summer was difficult with the Alexander Isak saga. That episode showed the club how disruptive uncertainty can be during preparation.

We reported earlier that Newcastle United are monitoring Endrick with serious intent ahead of the January transfer window, which shows their ambition to find the next breakthrough talent, but they remain equally determined to protect what they already have.

According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the Magpies now plan to hold talks with Bruno Guimaraes over a new deal. Manchester City remain interested, and Pep Guardiola rates the midfielder highly, believing he could form a formidable midfield partnership with Rodri.

City tried to sign the 27-year-old in the summer, but Newcastle rejected all offers. They remain firm again. Guimaraes has three goal contributions this season despite the team’s inconsistent start, and he remains central to Eddie Howe’s plans. The club’s leadership aim to secure him long-term and avoid another setback like the Isak affair.

While speaking on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said: “Newcastle had a lot to focus on in the summer with the Alexander Isak transfer saga, and they don’t want to lose any more of their star players.

As I said, Guimaraes seems like he’s happy at Newcastle. We know that Newcastle are very happy with him.

“I would imagine there’ll be discussions potentially to be held over a new contract to see if they can keep him on Tyneside as well, but a lot will depend on how Newcastle are doing and performing.

“If they’re competing in the Champions League, I don’t see any reason why Guimaraes would push for a move away.”

Why Guimaraes Matters So Much for Newcastle United?

Bruno Guimaraes is hugely important for Newcastle United, and his influence touches many parts of the club’s progress. On the pitch, the Brazilian possesses defensive strength with an ability to create, and that rare balance lets Eddie Howe build his tactical approach around him.

He wins tackles, intercepts attacks, and immediately shifts into attack with passes that split lines or direct runs that open space. At the same time, Guimaraes adds goals and assists, making him a complete midfielder.

Yet the Brazilian brings more than just technical quality. He often wears the armband when senior figures are absent, and his attitude reflects the ambition Newcastle now wish to project. His bond with supporters stands out, as fans see him as a symbol of their new chapter. Securing him on improved terms is not only about finances.

It shows Newcastle’s determination to keep their best players while competing in domestic and European competitions. The board know that losing a player of this calibre could halt momentum. They will not want to repeat that mistake. We reported recently that Newcastle United want to bring Rúben Neves back to English football, and that story shows their broader intent. The Magpies want to build around proven quality, while making sure that their crown jewels, like Guimaraes, remain firmly tied to the project.
