Newcastle United’s Deal Hopes Damaged By Man City Swoop Knock-on Effect | OneFootball

Newcastle United have failed to convince Lille to part with Matias Fernandez-Pardo, with the sale of Ayyoub Bouaddi to Manchester City strengthening the French club’s stance.

Fernandez-Pardo is attracting real interest towards the end of the transfer window, despite Lille not being keen to let him go.

The French club have already rejected a proposal from Atletico Madrid, while an offer from RB Leipzig was also not good enough.

Newcastle also lodged an offer, of around €40m, but that was not good enough for Lille, though the Magpies have kept trying.

Lille however are refusing to be pushed into selling the winger and Newcastle have not convinced them, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Manchester City paying €100m for Bouaddi has removed any financial pressure on Lille and put the club in a strong position on Fernandez-Pardo.

President Olivier Letang has stuck a €70m price tag on Fernandez-Pardo’s head and has no incentive to reduce it given the cash he is bringing in from the Bouaddi sale.

The ball now looks firmly in Newcastle’s court as to whether they are prepared to pay the price for the Belgium international or walk away to look at other targets.

Given Newcastle’s proposal was around the €40m mark, heading up to €70m would represent a major increase for Matthias Jaissle’s men.

RB Leipzig have already signalled they are not prepared to pay over the odds for Fernandez-Pardo and look to be out of the race.

The Belgium winger was scouted by Aston Villa at the World Cup, but Unai Emery’s men do not appear to be attempting to sign him.

Now the odds may very much point towards Fernandez-Pardo staying put at Lille, at least until the January transfer window.
