Neymar and Gabigol could play first Santos match together, their Brazil record revisited | OneFootball

Neymar and Gabriel Barbosa could play their first match together for Santos when they face Velo Clube on Sunday 15 at 20:30 at Vila Belmiro, in the eighth round of the Paulistão. According to Diario Do Peixe, the pair have yet to share the pitch for the club.

They have not previously appeared together for Santos. In Neymar’s 2013 farewell against Flamengo, Gabigol came on for his debut but they did not play at the same time.

For Brazil they have featured in 18 matches together, with Gabigol scoring four and Neymar nine.

At Rio 2016 they won Olympic gold, beating Germany in the final at the Maracanã. Their campaign brought 0-0 draws with South Africa and Iraq, a 4-0 win over Denmark with Gabigol scoring, a 2-0 victory against Colombia with Neymar on target, then a 6-0 semi-final over Honduras and a 1-1 final in which Neymar scored.

Beyond the Olympics, the pair also lined up together in friendlies, Copa América and World Cup qualifiers. Notable results included 2-0 against Japan with a Gabigol goal, 3-0 versus Venezuela and 4-1 against Uruguay when both scored, plus meetings with Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Chile, Colombia and Argentina.
