Neymar (32) is on the verge of completing a spectacular homecoming and signing for formative Brazilian club Santos, L’Equipe can reveal this Friday. The Brazil international will leave Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal upon the expiry of his contract next June. The Riyadh-based outfit paid PSG €90m to let go of the most expansive football player in history two years ago. Neymar’s two seasons in Saudi Arabia were hampered by serious injuries. He only played seven games for Al-Hilal, logging one goal and three assists.
The outlet understands that an agreement is close to being reached between Al-Hilal, Santos and Neymar. The Brazil international striker and his father, Neymar da Silva Sr, would join an investment fund to acquire a stake in Santos, paving the way for the Santos FC youth graduate to return to his roots.
L’Equipe adds that such an arrangement will offer Neymar a lucrative deal to join Santos and it would also facilitate the termination of his Al-Hilal contract. MLS franchise Chicago Fire were also interested in acquiring the Brazilian maverick. Neymar left Santos FC in 2013, aged 21, to join FC Barcelona. He spent four seasons in Spain before sealing a record €222m move to PSG.
