Neymar received an affectionate reception in Argentina around Santos’s 1-1 Copa Sudamericana group-stage draw at San Lorenzo, with youngsters, home fans and even opponents showing their admiration.

ESPN Argentina reports that his visit became a local attraction. Boca Juniors hosted Santos for training, and young supporters waited at the team hotel for autographs and photos.

During the warm-up at the Pedro-Bidegain, the Brazilian was applauded after greeting a group of San Lorenzo wheelchair supporters. As he led Santos out, a child mascot burst into tears on seeing his idol.

Two San Lorenzo defenders, Fabricio López and Ezequiel Herrera, happily claimed the number 10’s boots and shirt.

In his 11th appearance of the season, Neymar was involved in the build-up to Gabriel Barbosa’s 33rd-minute equaliser. He later thanked the Argentine crowd in a video posted on Wednesday.

Santos are struggling domestically, sitting 17th in the Brazilian league, and are still chasing a first Sudamericana win. They are bottom of their group with 2 points.
