Nico Serrano will remain with Athletic at least until the January window, after recent market checks failed to yield a move he or the club saw as suitable to monetise.
As reported by as.com, several Segunda clubs, including Cádiz, asked about his situation, as did foreign sides from various leagues, among them a Croatian top-flight team. He believes in his potential and that he could help Edin Terzic across the front line.
Serrano previously had to win over Ernesto Valverde, during a spell of loans at Mirandés, PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands, Ferrol and Sporting. Now under Terzic, he faces a fresh test.
He logged only 60 pre-season minutes, split against Racing and Burgos, and has since been left out of league squads. A minor rectus femoris issue has cleared, and he has been training as normal at Lezama in recent weeks.
The winger is contracted until June 2028 and has caps for Spain at under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-19 levels. He has consistently stated his wish to succeed at Athletic.
Competition on the flanks is fierce with the Williams, though Iñaki is set to feature more as a nine, plus Navarro, Berenguer and Djaló. Football can be capricious, and Serrano will look to make his qualities tell.
