Nicolas Jackson has given the green light to a transfer to Aston Villa from Chelsea, with talks set to step up between the two clubs.
Unai Emery has made Jackson a top target before the transfer deadline, having worked with the forward at Villarreal. Jackson made his breakthrough at the Spanish side under Emery, who has monitored his progress closely in recent seasons.
The 25-year-old is free to leave Chelsea after returning from a season on loan at Bayern Munich, where he scored 11 goals. Joao Pedro is cemented as Chelsea’s first-choice forward, while the Blues have added Danny Welbcek to their options.
According to journalist Nicolo Shira, Jackson has ‘given his approval’ to a move to Villa Park, as Aston Villa seek to strengthen ahead of a Champions League campaign. Chelsea want a fee of around £65m for the Senegal international, who has scored 30 goals in 81 games for the Blues.
Jackson’s arrival at Aston Villa could pave the path for Tammy Abraham to exit. The forward has struggled for regular minutes since signing from Besiktas in the January transfer window.
Emery started 17-year-old Brian Majdo over Abraham during the UEFA Super Cup defeat to PSG on Wednesday with the teenager scoring in the 2-1 loss.
