Eintracht Frankfurt’s French left-back Niels Nkounkou, 25, is close to joining Nice on loan with an option to buy.

According to L'Équipe, Celtic believed in recent hours they could complete the deal, but the player now appears to be heading to Nice.

Nice’s hierarchy have pushed hard to turn the talks in their favour, while they await clarity on Melvin Bard, who has been courted for a late-window exit.

Discussions between all parties are progressing positively on a loan that includes a purchase option. Nkounkou remains under contract at Frankfurt until June 2028.

A move to Nice would reunite him with close friend Elye Wahi, who was also ceded by Eintracht this summer.
