Nigel Lonwijk leaves Wolves for Maccabi Haifa in £500,000 permanent move | OneFootball

Nigel Lonwijk has left Wolves to join Maccabi Haifa in a £500,000 permanent move, with a 25 per cent sell-on clause retained.

The 23-year-old ends six-and-a-half years at Molineux, having arrived from PSV Eindhoven in January 2020 and progressed from the under-18s through the academy. Matt Jackson, the club’s technical director, said the switch follows a strong development pathway and is a good step for the defender.

Lonwijk did not make a senior Wolves appearance, instead taking in six loan spells. He was involved in several pre-season camps, including the club’s trip to Portugal this summer.

He was not involved in the mid-week friendly win over Maidenhead, and the move was then finalised.

The defender built significant experience through loans after joining as a very young player at a time when academy rules were different and allowed recruitment of young foreign talents. With a year remaining on his contract, a permanent exit suits both parties and secures future financial interest for Wolves alongside immediate remuneration.

Lonwijk has been a model professional and an example to younger players, and with a young family he departs carrying the club’s best wishes for his future.
