Norwich City will hope Johannes Hoff Thorup’s time at the club turns out to be more successful than David Wagner’s stint.

Wagner was brought in by the Canaries as a man who could lead the club back to the Premier League, but in his one and a half seasons in charge, Norwich were unable to achieve promotion.

The closest they came was in the campaign just gone, as Norwich finished in sixth place and secured a play-off spot, but massively underperformed as they were battered by Leeds United.

That match was Wagner’s last in charge, and it is now Hoff Thorup who has been given the reins to take the club back to the top flight.

Given the new arrival of a manager, there are likely going to be a few changes at Norwich this summer, so here we have looked at the latest news coming out of the club…

Celtic suffer a blow in the race to sign Adam Idah

Norwich City decided to send striker Adam Idah on loan to Celtic in the January transfer window, a move that worked out very well for the player.

Idah was a regular goalscorer for the Scottish side, and he helped the club go on to seal a league and cup double.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Celtic are keen to re-sign the striker this summer, but their efforts may have just suffered a blow.

According to Football Insider, Celtic’s move for Idah could be delayed as new Norwich manager Johannes Hoff Thorup is keen to look at him in pre-season.

The report states that Idah is believed to be a top target for Brendan Rodgers this summer, but Hoff Thorup is keen to give the 23-year-old a chance to impress.

It goes on to add that the Scottish champions will not “wait forever” for the Canaries to make up their minds on whether they will let the striker leave or not. Idah is still under contract at Carrow Road until the summer of 2028.

Norwich City face competition for Scottish winger

It was reported last month by TEAMtalk, that Norwich were among the teams interested in signing Aiden McGinlay from Queens Park.

The report stated that as well as the Canaries being interested in the player, who has impressed in the Scottish club’s under-18s and B team this season, he is also of interest to Stoke City, West Brom, Ipswich Town, and Celtic.

The 17-year-old has yet to play for Queens Park’s first team but is believed to be regarded as the club’s best prospect in the academy.

The Scottish side want to tie the player down to a new contract, but they are also braced for interest to arrive in the coming months.

But as well as these teams being interested, Burnley are now believed to have joined the race to sign McGinlay, as reported by the Daily Record live blog (07.06.24, 10:29 a.m.).

If the player were to leave Queens Park this summer, the club would be entitled to minimal compensation, as he’s only been at the club for less than a year.

Conflicting claims made over Norwich’s interest in Emiliano Marcondes

Gustavo Hamer has been linked away from Coventry which could open up a move for Marcondes

It was reported by Football Insider last week that Norwich City are one of several clubs to have made their interest in AFC Bournemouth midfielder Emiliano Marcondes known.

The 29-year-old joined the Cherries in the summer of 2021, but he now looks set to depart at the end of this month, when his contract expires.

This report added that Hoff Thorup is keeping an eye on Marcondes’ situation, as he is a big fan of the Danish midfielder.

However, while that report emerged, it was claimed elsewhere that Marcondes isn’t a target for the Canaries.

It was reported that, contrary to reports from Football Insider, Marcondes isn’t a player that Norwich are pursuing at this moment in time.

It seems Marcondes may be on the move to the Championship, but it is unclear if Norwich are indeed one of the teams interested.
