Nottingham Forest’s move for Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read is in doubt, with Roma stepping up their pursuit.

According to Sport Witness, Forest have lodged three bids, the latest worth €21m to €23m (£17.9m to £19.6m), all rejected as Feyenoord seek €25m (£21.3m). The report adds Forest have a five-year agreement with the 20-year-old. Roma are said to have offered at least €25m and sent a delegation to the Netherlands to try to finalise a deal.

The Serie A side are said to want him on a flight back to Italy, and Feyenoord are willing to negotiate.

It is claimed Oliver Glasner has not given up and could yet increase Forest’s bid.

Read said he finds the situation exciting but cannot predict what will happen and does not know everything that is going on by design.

He added that his agents shield details so he can focus on getting fit for the new season, and he will wait for the clubs to reach an agreement before deciding his future.
