Ten-man Nottingham Forest earned a valuable 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace after a spirited second half.

According to Nottingham Post, the point could prove important in their survival fight. Early on, Matz Sels denied Jefferson Lerma after an effort was blocked, then a penalty appeal for Igor Jesus was rejected before Morgan Gibbs-White fired in from Ola Aina’s long throw in the fifth minute.

Palace threatened on the break. On the stroke of half-time Neco Williams handled on the line, saw red, and Ismaila Sarr smashed in the penalty for 1-1.

Sels did not return after the interval, Angus Gunn came on for his debut and first league appearance since last May with Norwich City in the Championship. New signing Stefan Ortega was unveiled before kick-off.

Forest limited the visitors despite the disadvantage and created a few promising moments before settling for a point. In the ratings, Ibrahim Sangare, Elliot Anderson and Gibbs-White scored 8.5, Nikola Milenkovic took 8, while Williams was given 3.
