Nottingham Forest are set to make Oliver Glasner one of the Premier League’s highest paid managers, with a deal worth about £13m a year, The Sun claims.

The former Crystal Palace boss is in line to replace Vitor Pereira after his departure was confirmed on Thursday. He would be the Reds’ fifth head coach in a year. Glasner is a free agent after leaving Palace at the end of the season and had attracted interest from AC Milan and Manchester United.

Such terms would make him joint second highest paid in the top flight, with Chelsea’s Xabi Alonso said to be on a similar sum. Only Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta is identified as earning more, at £15m a year.

Enzo Maresca at Manchester City and Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham are said to be on £12m, while Andoni Iraola reportedly earns £10m at Liverpool. Unai Emery is listed on £9.5m at Aston Villa, slightly above Eddie Howe’s £9m at Newcastle United.

Forest view landing Glasner as a coup as they seek to push back towards the top end of the table. An immediate return to European football is the aim next season, with owner Evangelos Marinakis keen to avoid another relegation battle.

Pereira was appointed in February and steered the club to safety with two games to spare, also guiding a run to the Europa League semi-finals. Talks were held over extending his deal, which had 12 months left, but Forest chose to exercise a break clause before it expired at the end of June.
