Nottingham Forest have triggered a one-year option to extend Matz Sels’ contract.
The club said in a statement that the goalkeeper’s deal now runs to the summer of 2028 and that he has been a key figure since arriving in 2024, featuring 96 times in all competitions.
Sels joined during the 2024 winter window from Strasbourg for a reported £5 million.
The 34-year-old has established himself as first choice and the development follows interest from Club Brugge, amid suggestions he might welcome a return to his homeland.
Sels is one of two senior goalkeepers currently on the books. Stefan Ortega and Angus Gunn have left as free agents this summer. Brazilian John Victor is the only other option, with additions expected before the transfer window shuts.
Securing key renewals remains central to Forest’s plans. Murillo signed a new contract before the end of 2025/26, Neco Williams is said to be close to fresh terms, and Nicolas Dominguez and Ibrahim Sangare could also be in line for improved deals.
Pre-season begins later this month with a change in the dugout anticipated. Vitor Pereira is set to be replaced by Oliver Glasner, although Forest have yet to confirm the Portuguese’s departure despite him issuing a statement confirming his exit.
