Work on the Nou Mestalla has moved forward with the arrival of the first cables that will support the stadium’s roof, now stockpiled on site.
According to Superdeporte, the components were manufactured by Germany’s Pfeifer Structures, based in Memmingen, a recognised specialist in this field. The firm produces high strength cables and has worked on major venues including San Mamés, Volksparkstadion and VfB Stuttgart’s MHPArena.
For the Nou Mestalla, Pfeifer is developing three key cable systems for the roof structure. Bracing cables will stiffen the pillars, an inner tension ring will sit within the steelwork, and radial cables will link that ring to the outer compression ring. Installation is planned for the coming months.
The future roof will weigh about 4,800 tonnes and will rest on 50 S355 steel pillars, underlining the project’s scale and complexity. It is designed to play an energy role as well as a structural one.
Octopus Energy, the Sustainable Founding Partner, will add a photovoltaic installation around the outer perimeter, with solar panels and a smart management system. The roof will become a generator of green energy, strengthening the stadium’s sustainability commitment.
