Gennaro Gattuso’s arrival at Lazio has sparked a resurgence, with Nuno Tavares back to prominence and several team-mates revitalised.
Tavares shone under Marco Baroni before injuries, then struggled under Maurizio Sarri’s stricter defensive demands, and Pedraza’s signing seemed to threaten his place. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he is one of several to have been reborn under the 48-year-old coach.
Tijjani Noslin, signed in 2024, drifted last season when Sarri admitted he did not know his role. Gattuso values versatility, using him as a striker while waiting for Andrea Pinamonti to find form, and trialling him in support.
With Danilo Cataldi and Nicolo Rovella out, Reda Belahyane’s resurgence may be coincidental, but it has impressed. The Morocco international has shielded the defence and advanced play, resembling a modern regista.
Matteo Cancellieri was close to leaving in the window until Gattuso, encouraged by training, blocked the move. He has added energy and composure on the right while Gustav Isaksen regains sharpness.
Christos Mandas replaced Ivan Provedel in 2024/25 before Sarri reversed the call, then went on loan to Bournemouth without playing. Gattuso made him first choice from day one and sold Provedel, and the Greek has repaid that faith.
Romano Floriani Mussolini had no senior chance, leaving on loan after outgrowing the Primavera, but Gattuso put him ahead of Manuel Lazzari and, when Adam Marusic was injured, started him. The 23-year-old has freshened a full-back group, and the club is keen to offer a new deal.
