Job Ochieng, a 23-year-old Kenyan forward, is bidding to secure a first-team place at Real Sociedad. He impressed in Segunda División for the B team last season with nine goals and two assists, earning repeated call-ups and a senior debut under Pellegrino Matarazzo.
According to AS, he has trained with the senior squad from day one of pre-season and has featured in every friendly so far, except the opener against Racing de Santander.
His pathway is shaped by regulations, since at 23 he cannot switch between B team registration and first-team football during the same campaign.
For now, the club are not considering any departure, and he is in line to remain with the first-team group next season. They believe he can add something different to the current squad, while accepting he still has room to improve.
He extended his contract in February until June 2028. After the last league match against Espanyol, Matarazzo highlighted his unteachable pace, his threat when running into space, and said the display was short of top level but showed significant potential and reasons for optimism.
Ochieng now aims to build on those traits to earn a lasting place in the American coach’s plans.
