Olympique Lyonnais have confirmed that England youth international Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez (17) has signed a new contract with the club. The Englishman’s new deal with the Rhône club is set to last for a further 3 seasons until the end of 2028.
Lyon signed Gomes from Southampton on a free transfer in 2024. The Venezuelan-born striker made his professional debut for Les Gones last year. Gomes Rodriguez took to the field as a second-half substitute during Lyon’s 2-1 defeat against Lens in April. The former Southampton attacker was included in OL’s first three squads of this season, but has yet to make an appearance.
Lyon currently doesn’t have a recognised striker after the Ligue 1 club sanctioned the sale of Georgian international Georges Mikautadze (24) to Villarreal on transfer deadline day. The French outfit tried to recruit a striker, but decided against a panic buy. This could create an opportunity for the youngster at the first-team level.
