Official: Barcelona handed tough draw in Copa del Rey semi-finals | OneFootball

The draw for the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey has on Friday been carried out.

And it has confirmed the most high-profile draw possible on one side of the bracket, in the form of a showdown between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid.

Reigning champions Barcelona are for their part fresh off sending 2nd tier Albacete packing from the Copa earlier this week.

This was in turn followed by Diego Simeone’s Atlético making surprisingly short work of Real Betis, to the tune of a 5-0 romp.

Both Spanish heavyweights therefore took their place in Friday’s draw for the competition’s final-4, and will count themselves unfortunate to have been pitted against one another.

This means that, on the other side of the draw, a Basque Derby awaits between Athletic Club and Real Sociedad.

The ties, which will take place across two legs, are scheduled to get underway on February 11th, and finish up on March 4th.
