Spanish football’s two leading clubs have officially missed out on the signature of one of the country’s most highly-regarded young talents.

The player in question? Antonio ‘Antoñito’ Cordero.

Antoñito, for his part, is an 18-year-old striker, who has long been considered a potential star in the making.

The starlet was the subject of intense interest on the part of Barcelona last summer, with the Camp Nou hierarchy having gone as far as to table an offer for his services.

In the end, as much was rebuffed by Málaga, determined to secure what they felt was market value in return for their crown jewel.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, have also long been credited with a keen interest in Antoñito, whose contract terms with Málaga are due to expire at the end of the month.

As alluded to above, though, in the end, the lure of Premier League football has proven too much for the attacker to turn down.

As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United on Thursday:

‘We are delighted to announce the signing of Antonio Cordero who’ll join on 1 July following the expiry of his contract with Málaga.’
