Axel Disasi’s loan to West Ham has finally been completed and announced, hours after the 19.00 GMT January transfer window closed tonight.

The French defender will play for the Hammers until the end of the season, and there are vague whispers of a buy option.

Chelsea move on final bomb squad member

Chelsea had continued to insist that they would only listen to permanent bids for Disasi, but just like last year when the cracked and loaned him in January, they did so right at the death in this window. Everyone hopes he shines and can be sold.

Even given all that, we really have no idea why this took so long – loans can usually be done pretty easily. This would have been infinitely more useful a move for West Ham and Disasi had it happened on January 2nd rather than February.

But that’s just how things go in football. Disasi is not John Terry, but he’s shown himself to be pretty solid, and compared with West Ham’s other options, and playing in a Nuno team fighting for their lives, we can see him doing pretty well. Let’s not forget he was once a regular Chelsea starter, and at least has some physical tools. Hopefully the fact he’s been in first team training for a while now will have sharpened him up.

However it works out, it’s better for everyone than him being in the bomb squad. Good luck Axel!
