Daniel Elfadli has completed a move away from Hamburger SV, with the defender joining Austrian double winners LASK on loan.
According to Bild, the 29-year-old also turned down an offer from SV Elversberg on deadline day. There is reportedly no option to buy included in the deal.
Elfadli is now granted the opportunity of continental football given that LASK have qualified for the Champions League, where they will face the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool. The deadline to register players for the competition is Wednesday at midnight, meaning Elfadli’s transfer had to be completed in time.
The centre-back joined HSV from 1. FC Magdeburg two years ago for a reported €800,000 and is under contract with the club until 2028. Following HSV’s promotion to the Bundesliga, Elfadli lost his starting place during the second half of last season after suffering an adductor injury.
After the departure of loanee Luka Vuskovic, Sebastiaan Bornauw was brought in as a new defensive leader, while highly rated youngster Shafiq Nandja also worked his way up the pecking order.
“Elfadli was one of our key players during the promotion season and played a crucial role in securing our survival last season,” said sporting director Claus Costa.
“Due to the competition for places, his chances of playing time with us had recently diminished. The loan to LASK presented him with a fantastic opportunity that we didn’t want to deny him. We are convinced that Elfadli, with his versatility and personality, will be a valuable asset to his new team. We wish him every success in Austria.”
