Official: Gladbach part ways with head coach Eugen Polanski | OneFootball

Borussia Mönchengladbach have confirmed that they have have parted ways from head coach Eugen Polanski with immediate effect. 

After rumours of a split circled earlier this morning, assistant coach Tobias Trulsen has also been relieved of his duties.

Defeats to RB Leipzig (3-0) and SV Elversberg (4-3) followed by yesterday's 5-0 hammering at SC Freiburg seems to have been the last straw.

Appointed in November 2025, the 40-year-old precided over the Fohlen-elf for 29 games in total until today's decision.

With one game to go against Mainz before the international break, Jan-Moritz Lichte will take over on an interim basis. 

“Despite a good preseason and positive signs, the team has not managed to achieve the desired results in the Bundesliga.

"The recent performances led to the decision to relieve Eugen of his duties with immediate effect. Eugen is a true Borussia man through and through.

"We thank him and also Tobias Trulsen for their commitment to Borussia," sporting director Rouven Schröder said regarding Polanski.

A rather apologetic Polanski himself also gave a statement after his sacking, upset at not being able to do his best for the Rhinelanders.

“Borussia Mönchengladbach was and always will be my club. That's why it hurts so incredibly much that things have turned out this way:

"After successfully avoiding relegation, we made a number of changes this season. We had high hopes, but we didn't manage to achieve them.

"I'm sorry about that. I sincerely hope that Borussia gets back on track very quickly. I wish the club, the team, and all the wonderful fans all the best. Thank you for the time we shared.”
