Official: Injured Barcelona star withdraws from Spain squad | OneFootball

With it being an extended international break, it is understandable that a number of clubs will be nervous about their players getting injured. A number of stars have already been struck down, and Barcelona have been one of those affected.

At the weekend, Spain defeated England 3-2, a match in which several Barcelona players featured. Eric Garcia was one that didn’t, although he had been due to start for the reigning world champions in their UEFA Nations League opener until he suffered a knee injury in the warm-up.

Eric has since been assessed, and the decision has been made for him to return to Barcelona for further evaluation, as per Sport. Thus, he has withdrawn from the Spain squad with immediate effect, with his replacement being Atletico Madrid defender Robin Le Normand.

Eric injury not believed to be serious

It’s not the first time this season that Eric has been injured, but fortunately, the decision made by Spain appears to be more precautionary than anything. It’s only minor knee discomfort that he is suffering from, and all being well, he should be able to feature for Barcelona when they return to action in a couple of weeks’ time against Getafe.

In a way, this has worked out for Barcelona. They have avoided the chance of Eric suffering a more serious injury, and he will have plenty of time to recover fully before Hansi Flick’s side are back in action. There will be no risks taken with his recovery, but it would be a surprise if he didn’t receive the medical green light within the next 10 days.

Barcelona will hope they do not have to deal with any more injury problems during the remainder of the international break. Andreas Christensen is already out, and with this Eric situation, they cannot afford many more scares – especially in defence.
