French midfielder Jonas Martin (33) has left Lille OSC after both parties mutually agreed to part ways. Martin signed for Les Dogues as a free agent last year from Stade Rennais. The versatile midfielder, who came to prominence at Strasbourg, played a mostly peripheral role at Lille. This past campaign, he only played in 13 games in all competition, totalling 283 minutes on the pitch. Martin was entering the final year of his contract, but he agreed with Lille to terminate that deal.
“The Club thanks Jonas for his commitment and professionalism and wishes him the best for the rest of his career”, Lille wrote in their press release. According to Foot Mercato, Ligue 2 side Girondins de Bordeaux are very interested in Martin’s profile. As an experienced versatile midfielder – now available on a free transfer – the 2019 Coupe de la Ligue winner with Strasbourg would be a smart addition to the David Guion-led side. The French publication understand Bordeaux have submitted a contractual offer to Martin.
