Inter Milan have announced the signing of experienced Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel on a permament basis.
The Italian champions have parted ways with Yann Sommer after a three-year collaboration. They have decided to promote Josep Martinez to the No.1 role, but they wanted to pair him with a reliable and experienced backup capable of stepping in when required.
The Nerazzurri identified Provedel as the perfect profile for the role, and after weeks of negotiations, they were able to reach the finish line. On Wednesday evening, Inter’s official website announced that Provedel has signed a three-year contract with the club.
The 1994-born goalkeeper has moved to Inter from Lazio on a permanent deal: he has signed a contract with the Nerazzurri Club until June 30, 2029.
While the official note didn’t disclose any figures, previous reports had expected Lazio to collect a €3 million transfer fee. While this may seem like a modest figure, it should be remembered that Provedel is 32 and had only one year left on his contract with the Biancocelesti. The goalkeeper will reportedly earn a yearly net salary of €1.5 million in addition to bonuses.
This marks the end of a memorable four-year spell for the Friulian goalkeeper in the Italian capital. Provedel will be remembered for equalling the Serie A clean-sheet record with 21 shutouts in his first season, and also for his unforgettable equalizer in the Champions League group-stage game against Atletico Madrid in September 2023.
